LATEST NEWS NOVEMBER2025

Welcome to the landing page. Contact me at nigelj.hinton1@gmail.com if you would like to arrange for a private walking tour of Shrewsbury or an historic talk for your group.

Currently I am directing work on the Drapers` Research Project 2025/26, working with fellow Draper, Dr Cathryn Talbot, chair of Newport and District History Society. Together with a team of researchers and using team sharing technology, we hope to continue and complete the work started by Irene Rope and continued by Lilly Chitty in the years 1900- 1924. This was published in The Shropshire Historical and Archaeological Society`s Transactions.

They managed to get about halfway through, about 200 pages, of transcribing and translating of the 400 pages of script , known as The Earliest book of the Shrewsbury Drapers Company. SA Ref 1931/1/9/3. This has been digitised by The Index Bindery in Ludford.

Due to unforeseen circumstances the project is paused until end of April
